All Levels: geared to both the experienced dancer & the novice.

Explore the rich tapestry of music and movement that is the hallmark of Belly Dance. Indulge in a playful excursion into the music and art at the heart of the Belly Dance genre. The music and dance for this class will explore folkloric, tribal and stage variations.

Each class will start with a high paced warm up, focus on Belly Dance isolations and gestures, and develop fun combinations that highlight the rhythm and melody of our music selections.

Olivia of Zafira Dance Company brings you this workshop that re-works some of Bellydance’s most classic moves. We will reinterpret these classics by slowing down, speeding up, taking them apart and turning them inside out!

This workshop is exciting for both the novice and the experienced dancer. We will explore some of the most quintessential “belly dance” movements and gestures, giving special attention to the body mechanics necessary to execute movement with clarity, definition and grace.

Participants will get a taste of how Olivia and Zafira work with Bellydance: a timelessly beautiful dance form, to create unique and powerfully expressive performance art.

Space: The Final Frontier

**This workshop explores the expressive potential of Dunham Technique, Guinean Dance, Tango, Russian Gypsy and Belly Dance.**

Zafira Dance Company is known for gliding movement and maximizing the use of space on stage. In this class Olivia will develop our movement vocabulary with drills and combinations that are magnified with travelling steps, spins and changes in orientation. Skills that will be addressed: developing grace through strength, alignment, and coordination; travelling steps, spatial awareness, and timing. This workshop will help you break the ‘glued-to-the-floor’ habit and allow you to move around the floor for a more dynamic dance experience.

Nomad is a multimedia dance performance that mines the expressive potential of Tango, Jazz, Contemporary, Flamenco, Belly Dance, Russian Gypsy and Romani Dance, to embody a romantic story of longing and the solace found in imagination.

HYBRID: Dance Project is a budding young project inspired by the cross-pollination of dance styles co-mingling at Zafira Studios in Pittsburgh, PA. Studio owner & international artist, Olivia Kissel teams up with regional artists: Carolina Garcia-Loyola, Sara Bauer, Patrice Langford, and Joanna Abel to explore the boundaries of urban, folk and classical dance forms; creating a hybrid language that emerges between the worlds.
